The indefinite strike of Patwaris has rendered people to face immense hardships across the Kashmir. Students who had applied for various revenue documents to support their scholarship schemes in various institutions, had to return disappointed as no revenue official was present to perform duty. Abdul Majeed of Rajbagh said, “I am in need of state subject (PRC) for which I need some documents from the concerned Patwari.

The strike called by revenue officials make hundreds of people like me to suffer”. They added that the worst part is that due to their indefinite strike many people lose various opportunities if they fail to submit required revenue documents in respective institutions. Thousands of other property buyers and sellers have been desperately making rounds of the Patwari offices in their respective areas to get the much needed revenue document. Many people who were hoping to get state subject certificates and income certificates told PTK that they have also been suffering due to this strike. They added that even those hoping to get an income certificate and authorization letter from the Patwaris for availing the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” scheme have been unable to do so due to the ongoing strike.

The Patwaris, who began their strike on May 14, have been demanding grade pay of graduate patwaris, abolishing direct recruitment of naib tehsildar, placement of Girdawar Qanungos (GQs) to the post of naib tehsildar, timely Departmental Promotion Committee of Patwaris and GQs. While government has not responded to these demands so far, the imbroglio between Patwaris and the state government is causing inconvenience to common people.
